Try to count the things you see that are possible because of chemistry. Look at the soap that keeps you clean and at the cup of coffee that keeps you awake. Look at the snacks that you munch on that gives you bursts of energy. Best of all, look at your body and your organs that keep you alive. All these and much more are made possible because of substances and their chemical reactions to one another. Chemistry is all around us. Not only is studying it inescapable, but it itself is inescapable as well.

Because, dear student, to understand chemistry is to understand life. Chemistry can explain everything – from how we’re created, to who we become, to how we feel at any given moment, and up until how we die and decompose.
